Our school offers comprehensive Portuguese language instruction, catering to students from pre-school all the way up to 9th grade. With a curriculum approved by the esteemed Luis de Camões Institute in Portugal, we ensure the highest standards of education for our students. Our association with the institute reinforces the authenticity and quality of our teaching materials, guaranteeing an exceptional learning experience.
Nestled in Newark’s historic Ironbound section, our Newark Campus on Congress Street provides an ideal environment for students to thrive. Our fully renovated building offers modern facilities, creating a comfortable and conducive space for effective learning. We believe that providing students with excellent conditions fosters their enthusiasm and engagement in the language learning process.
At Escola Luis de Camões, we understand the importance of a well-rounded education that encompasses more than just classroom instruction. To enrich our students’ experience, we collaborate closely with the centennial Sport Club Portuguese to tap into a wide range of cultural activities and events. By integrating these activities into our curriculum, we ensure that our students gain a holistic understanding of Portuguese heritage and culture.
Our school operates from September to June, with in-person classes held every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm. Additionally, we offer online classes at various times, allowing flexibility for students with different schedules. Our curriculum focuses on the development of essential language skills, including listening, reading, oral production and interaction, and written production and interaction. We offer instruction from levels A1 to B2, providing a progressive and structured learning path.
Our primary objective is to prepare our students to achieve a minimum of B2 level proficiency, which is the professionally required level by QuaREPE. By the end of the seven years of schooling, our students are equipped with the language skills necessary to succeed in their personal, academic, and professional pursuits.
